Our Story Of How & Why We Arrived Here, Doing This
SOZO.DO started much like many businesses and organizations start: after years of work on hobbies, interests, and passions, enough knowledge, skills, and ideas started to converge to actually produce some quality projects and opportunities. After enough friends ask for help and then refer their friends, you realize it’s time to start a business. You can read more about this in the “About The Founders” section below.
But why “SOZO.DO”, exactly?
In 2013, Riley began a small business with a friend. The idea was to repurpose old furniture and odd items into new and modern furniture and decor. Our lofty ambition was to let our creativity and hard work run wild in this way until we had enough money, a big enough network, and a strong enough track record of skills and profit to do this work on entire buildings and homes.
The word “sozo” is the greek word meaning “healing”, “redemption”, or “salvation”. A core belief we shared and still hold is that if you truly know and experience goodness — if you are “healed” or “redeemed” — then you cannot help but help others experience the same. In other words, when you are “saved” you then “do” and help others experience the same goodness you have. If you try to “do” for the sake of having or experiencing “goodness”, it will lead to a life of dissatisfaction, resentment, anxiety, and depression. Only those who know goodness can truly do goodness for others out of what they already have. Hence, “SOZO” and then “DO”!
Though Riley was running a different and successful business at the time, the original plan for SOZO.DO ultimately failed when the business partner had to move many states away for family issues and the business did not have enough momentum to be maintained. Two years later though, when an enjoyable hobby became a large amount of knowledge and experience and a viable method for providing a living for some and doing good for others, SOZO.DO was reborn as what it is now — a small “agency” of creatives, strategists, learners, and get-things-done-ers that love helping businesses, organizations, and individuals do more of the good they do.
We specialize in beautiful and easy to maintain websites, intelligent and endearing branding, words and graphics that convey and convert your brand and your audience, insight-lead strategies and measured marketing efforts. The truth is, most of this comes out of doing great web design anyway. So while certainly different, and with it’s own challenges, the rest is a natural outflow.
We have big plans for the future as well (you can read about some of that in the Future Vision and Goals section below if you want). We hope we can help you maximize the good you do in your business or organization!
